“Movement is as necessary to mental and physical development as food.”
Grace Nash
Yes, movement is good for you, but, most of all, it is fun! Add some music and you’re ready to move and groove to the beat. You can get up and get moving and share time with your family showing them that fitness can be something everyone can enjoy. Dancing is something everyone can do their entire life. Start a habit early and dance through life. Grandmas, Granddads, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers and friends can all join in.
Here are some ideas to get started:
- Play some favorite music. Be sure and try a variety of styles such as rock, classical, country, oldies, show tunes, hip-hop and salsa.
- Encourage everyone to “Express Yourself” and get creative with the moves.
- Experiment with stretching, bending, twisting, turning, shaking and swinging.
Invite family members and friends to teach one another new moves like hip-hop or waltzing, cha-cha or swing, salsa or samba.
- Let your little one dance on your feet as you waltz together.
- Add some props such as swirling shirts, taps on your shoes, bongo drums, and scarves.
- Pull out the video camera and make lasting memories. Why wait till your daughter’s wedding to ask her to dance.
