It summer time and fun time for the whole family .Whether its Father’s Day or the Forth of July, summer offers a season full of opportunities for Dads, Moms and Grandparents to get involved and play together with the kids.
Water Play
Marco Polo:
One person is Marco:
- Get in the pool.
- Close your eyes and call out "Marco."
- Listen for the other players to answer with "Polo."
- Swim with your eyes closed in the direction of a voice.
- Call out "Marco" several more times if you like, always waiting to hear "Polo" in response.
- Tag any player, and you are no longer Marco.
All others are polo:
- Get in the pool.
- Answer "Polo" every time you hear the word "Marco."
- Swim away from Marco to avoid being tagged.
- Become Marco the instant you are tagged.
Tips & Warnings
You must answer every shout of "Marco" that you hear.
You cannot get out of the pool to escape being tagged. If Marco thinks someone has gotten out of the pool, he or she shouts, "Fish out of water!" A player outside the pool when this is called becomes the new Marco.
How to Make Your Own Water Slide
- Purchase a large roll of plastic, at least 4 feet wide and 12 feet long. Plastic tarps work as well.
- Choose a sunny area for your water slide, on an incline or hill and within reach of a hose.
- Unroll the plastic. Make sure no rocks or hard or sharp objects are sitting underneath it.
- Rake away any grass or leaves around the water slide area, as these will stick to the participants
- Turn on the water from a hose from the top
- Take turns and ride the slide!
Things to Do At the Beach
- Make sand caves:
- Pack wet sand around and over your foot and mound it on top
- Slowly remove your foot thereby creating a cave
- Place special finds inside
- Fly a kite:
- Play Frisbee
- Take a walk
- Body surf
- Go fishing
- Try crabbing with a line and a piece of bait
- Collect shells: sort by category, color, and size
- Make shell jewelry with fishing line and shells you find with holes in them for stringing
- Collect small shells and later glue around a picture frame for your favorite beach memory
- Snorkel around in the shallow water
- Boogie board
- Surf
- Body surf
- Feed the birds
- Make a sand castle complete with moat
